The inauguration was done in 1950, 11th of May by the Indian president Rajendra Prasad.
According to some ancient texts, at first King Somraj constructed the temple with gold in Satya Yuga. During Treta Yuga, it was again built by Ravana in silver, and Lord Krishna built temple in Dwapara Yuga with wood. Afterwards, it was again rebuilt by Bhimadev with stone.
